Who is responsible for consumer concern over GM foods?

Farmers are concerned they are not being told the whole story about
legal and financial risks associated with growing genetically
modified (GM) corn and other commodities, says American Corn Growers
Association president Keith Dittrich. "The recall of StarLink corn is
causing farmers to ask hard questions about who is responsible for
the consumer concerns and economic costs," he says. He applauds the
EPA for determining that the seed companies must take responsibility,
saying "it sets a necessary precedent and sends a strong signal to
biotech companies that they must be totally above board with
farmers." 10/18/2000 09:30 a.m.CDT
